DID YOU KNOW…
There are over 18 thousand species of flies in North America. In order to properly identify what’s buzzing around, you need a specialist. Flies grow from egg to adult in as little as 7 days. An adult female fly can lay up 600 eggs in 21 days! Flies can breed quickly, causing a full-blown infestation in a short amount of time.
One of the most common fly species we encounter is the house fly. These flies taste with their feet, which are 10 million times more sensitive to sugar than the human tongue. Ever wonder why you never catch a fly? They have the ability to see 360 degrees! While humans commonly find adult flies to be the most bothersome, the key to fly control is the larva stage.
Steps IPM uses to treat occasional fly infestations:
- Inspect infested areas
- Reduce the amount of fly population using pyrethrin
- Use an insect growth regulator to reduce eggs from hatching
- Use residuals on all surfaces to kill lingering adults
- Follow up service to break the egg cycle, along with providing recommendations to prevent infestation
